KOOP Rock and Soul Birthday Revue

It’s a birthday party with a great double bill, just $20! Austin’s own KOOP Radio is celebrating its 23rd birthday with our annual benefit, a concert celebrating independent listener-supported radio, and we’re doing it with two great bands: Tomar and the FCs and the legendary Bubble Puppy!

Tomar and the FCs are one of Austin’s fastest rising bands, a high-energy soulful unit with a Sam Cooke spirit and a James Brown passion. Just ask anyone who saw them at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival!

Bubble Puppy’s “Hot Smoke and Sassafras” was cool enough a psychedelic rock and roll hit that it even caught the attention of George Harrison, who wanted to get it out on the Beatles’ Apple label. It did just fine anyway, rocking its way into music history. That song was just the beginning for this legendary Texas band.

And KOOP Radio is your community radio station, the only cooperative of its kind in the country, programmed by volunteers and providing a wide array of musical programs and news/information programs. This important community resource needs your support to keep it going. Here’s a gloriously fun way to support KOOP!

It’s KOOP’s Spring Membership Drive!

We are right in the middle of KOOP’s Spring Membership Drive—and we need your support!

Did you know that more than 92% of KOOP’s budget comes from the generous support of community members like you? Without your pledge, we literally wouldn’t be on the air, bringing independent Canadian music to Austin every Friday.

KOOP is bursting at the seams with shows just like ours—unique, eclectic, informative, and adventurous. The kind of shows you can’t hear anywhere else in Austin—local, authentic, and even weird. In fact, we’re the nation’s only radio program focused exclusively on independent Canadian music. Help us keep this KOOP creation going strong!

Please give us a call while we’re on the air—Fridays from 4:30 to 6:00 PM Central—and pledge your support for KOOP by becoming a sustainer, making an easy and automatic monthly donation that continues until you tell us to stop. Or choose to make a one-time donation.

Community radio in Austin depends on your support—so please, call us at 512 472-5667 or donate online, safely and securely, at KOOP.org/donate.

KOOP’s 22nd Birthday Party

Austin’s independent radio institution is throwing a BIRTHDAY BLOWOUT with THREE LEGENDS of Austin music!

We’ve rounded up three musical acts that made Austin great, and all three will perform at our party:

  • First up, the legendary rocking blues of Omar & The Howlers!
  • Next up, the historic reggae band from the Liberty Lunch days, Pressure—recently reunited for select shows, including this one!
  • Then, closing the night, the one and only King of Tex-Mex and Nuevo Wavo, Joe King Carrasco with his great band, Los Side FX!

We’ll have door prizes and your favorite KOOP DJs. All proceeds benefit KOOP Radio, keeping independent radio alive and well in Austin!

Advance tickets are $20; admission is $25 at the door. Doors at 7:00 PM; music starts at 7:30.

Fall Membership Drive is happening now!

KOOP Membership Drive (Fall 2016)We produce the show for love of the music, but love by itself won’t pay the bills. That’s why we come to you, our listeners, twice a year and ask you to pledge your support for This Great White North and Austin community radio by making a donation to KOOP Radio. As a community radio station, KOOP survives (and thrives!) only as long as our listeners continue their support. In fact, more than 92% of our budget comes from the generous support of our community.

Our next three shows will be full of independent Canadian music and appeals for your support—please make a contribution to KOOP Radio today so we can continue to bring you the latest and greatest Canadian indie, along with all the other unique and essential programming that KOOP brings to the Austin community.

We’ve got some great gifts for donors! Head over to KOOP.org to show your support now or call us at 512 472-KOOP while we’re on the air (Fridays, 4:30 to 6:00 PM Central)!
