New emo, new releases, and old favorites

The latest by Canadian band Laureate rounds out a special double set of emo this week.

Justin the Canuck takes to the mic this week to bring you a bevy of new releases with some classics sprinkled in. We’ll be spinning the latest Canadian releases by The Besnard Lakes, Broken Social Scene, Calvin Love, The Courtneys, Fast Romantics, The Franklin Electric, Mise en Scene, Odd Years, Said the Whale, and TOPS. Plus, we’ve got a killer two-set emo spotlight with new releases by The Fullblast, Incendies, Laureate, and Sum 41—along with classic emo from .moneen. and their more recent incarnation, Seas.

We’ll even throw in some of our favorites by The Got to Get Got, The Liptonians, The Long Distance Runners, North Atlantic Explorers, and Slow Leaves. And, at 5 o’clock, we’ve got our Neil Young Song of the Week. This week, we’ve got “Drive Back” from Zuma, Neil’s 1975 release with Crazy Horse.

It’s 90 minutes of the finest independent Canadian music this side of the border—and it all goes down Friday at 4:30 PM Central on KOOP Radio, 91.7 FM in Austin, Texas and available live, worldwide, at KOOP.org. Tune in!
